When I tell people of my small town, they claim it's in the middle of nowhere. That may be true, but that doesn't stop it from celebrating it's place on the map. During it's annual Summerfest, people emerge from every nook and cranny to be a part the action.
Thursday will feature a barbecue chicken dinner for Girl Scout Junior Troop #599 from 4 to 9 p.m.; the Northeast YMCA 5K Fun Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk; and entertainment by the Doerfels Blue Grass Band and local favorites Hit N Run.
I had high hopes with visiting the Georgia Rib Company, it gets positive reviews for the Marietta area. It's in a odd building behind an ice rink that looks like it used to be a manufacturing plant. When you walk in, you notice the upscale decor and the vastness of the building. No one was posted in the lobby to assist us with seating so we had to roam through rooms before we found the dining area.
Chicken is my favorite meat, and honey slow cooker bbq apple chicken is my favorite way to have it. This delicious chicken is a fantastic choice for your Labor Day BBQ menu.
I've heard a few (very few) folks snicker when this place is mentioned, but that just tells you they are clueless because a great deal of Lauderdale's mover and shakers conduct business in this low-key place. That guy at the next table in the slow cooker bbq chicken board shorts and sandals may own that million dollar condo you just saw over on the Intracoastal. Ask any local and they'll tell you. This is a happening spot.
Hotdogs and Beans- Hotdogs are inexpensive to purchase and there are a variety of hot dogs such as chicken and pork. Chicken hot dogs can cost as low as .99 cents in some stores. Frank and Beans are very fulfilling and will feed a family of 3 for about 4 days at the price of $8. Hot dogs also present a choking hazard to children under 14. so be careful when you serve them.
Now although this is on Las Olas, don't be expecting yet another uppity specialty place. No, oh no. The Floridian is a down-to-Earth friendly kinda place that makes you feel right at home. It's a bit out of place in its surroundings, but that just adds to its charm.
